The Diet Is Not Working

OK so you tried the GFCFSF Diet for 10 - 14 days and you are convinced you don't see any changes in your child's Autistic Symptoms. Now what? Well first lets review and make sure that there have been no infractions. Have you checked the labels on all processed foods and called the manufacturer? What about Shampoos, surface cleaners and hand soaps?  Did your trial exclude artificial colors? Did you make sure that there were no cross contamination issues such as NOT using a dedicated GF toaster during your trial period? Are all the child's caregivers informed and on board with the trial? Did you make sure to eliminate all foods that were processed in the same facility as wheat?

If you still think it's not working then I implore you to visit this link and read about common pitfalls people make with the diet before you decide to quit. Solutions for Common GF/CF Pitfalls

There are two other diets to look into if the CFGFSF Diet does not work for your kid. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet and The Feingold Diet. Check my Links page for more info on them. Every child with Autism is unique. No two children on the spectrum have the same exact symptoms and no two kids will have the same path to recovery. It's up to you as parents to figure out which pieces of the puzzle fit for your child. Don't be discouraged, if the diet does not work then you are just one step closer to figuring out what will work. Move on to the Biomedical Intervention page on this blog for a summary of all the biomedical treatments of Autism that are currently available. With Autism it is very common to see improvements of symptoms after each new piece that you discover. For our son we saw remarkable improvements with the diet and after each introduction of new supplements and biomed therapies. This is why I say don't be discouraged if something doesn't help that you try because there will still be other things left to try. Allergy testing, enzyme therapy, probiotic therapy, vitamin supplements, it's all going to help....I promise. Just keep taking the next step and soon, very soon, you will discover the missing piece to your child's puzzle.
